Mental Maths Challenge

(KS2: age 7-11)

For three months we worked closely with Robert Wilkinson Primary School in York to create this new version of Mental Maths Challenge, which is far broader in scope and more inclusive than our previous offering.

Mental Maths Challenge helps pupils to acquire a set of mental strategies with practice and test modes to improve your pupils' skills in mental arithmetic. Typically the package is most applicable to children between the ages of 7 and 13, however as our software is age neutral it can be enjoyed by users of any age. When they've practised a particular strategy and feel confident then they are ready to take the one minute test. The package includes 43 separate activities, each with a worked example of the strategy to use.

The approach is similar to BondBuilder & TableTrainer - ie each challenge consists of a set of virtual cards which need to be sorted onto their correct answer disks using the particular mental maths strategy described for that challenge. Divided into 5 Challenge sets: Copper, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, there are over 40 individual levels, each offering practice of a specific skill. Before starting a challenge just hover the mouse over the "?" button to see a worked example.

Each level can be played in 2 modes: first practice mode, working through the 20 cards without the pressure of the timer, and then, when ready, you can take the 1 minute challenge.

Looking for 10s (add three numbers by finding the two that add to 10 first)
